The Ragnarok+ Training Grounds is where all new characters begin their journey. It is an opportunity to learn about the game, get free items and experience and kill some monsters. It is completely optional and can be skipped, however this is not recommended.
After you spawn in, immediately talk to Shion at /navi new_1-1 53/114 and select "Where should I go?". Then talk to her again and she rewards you with 9 Base EXP.
TIP: All your Status Points (Alt + A) will start at all 1's with 48 Points to distribute. You can reset your Status Points for FREE at the end of the Training Grounds with Gottfried as long as you do NOT exceed Base Level 14.
Communications Board
Before crossing the bridge, talk to the Communications Board at /navi new_1-1 66/115. Here you can set what channels you want to automatically join on login for this character. You can find the Communications Board in several major cities, so you can update your settings later.
TIP: For more information, like default channels and channel options, visit the dedicated Communications Board page.
Receptionist
Head across the bridge, inside the castle and talk to the Receptionist at /navi new_1-2 100/29. Enter your character name into the text box and press OK. Select "Apply for training.".
TIP: You can skip the Training Grounds by choosing "Direct Access to Ragnarok Online.". This is NOT recommended, as the Training Grounds does not take a lot of time and you get free levels and items.
Interfaces Tutor
Inside the Training Grounds, head up and talk to the Interfaces Tutor at /navi new_1-2 99/105. Select "Yes." and press enter through all his windows. He will reward you with 17 Base EXP, 10 Job EXP and a Tattered Novice Ninja Suit.
TIP: The Interfaces Tutor will warp you to the NPC's you need to talk to, if you talk to him again.
Skills Tutor
On the left, talk to the Skills Tutor at /navi new_1-2 83/111. Select "What do you teach?" and press enter through all of his windows. He will reward you with 26 Base EXP,46 Job EXP, and the First Aid skill.
Item Tutor
On the right, talk to the Item Tutor at /navi new_1-2 115/111. Select "Yes!" and press enter UNTIL she gives you a single Novice Potion. Use this Novice PotionBEFORE moving on and she will reward you with 37 Base EXP. Press enter UNTIL she gives you a Novice False Eggshell, Somber Novice Hood and Novice Slippers. Equip the Novice SlippersBEFORE moving on and she will reward you a with 78 Base EXP. Press enter through the remainder of her windows. She will reward you with 131 Job EXP, 50 Novice Potion, 10 Fly Wing and 2 Butterfly Wing.
Kafra Employee
Next to the Item Tutor, talk to the Kafra Employee at /navi new_1-2 118/108. Select "About Kafra services" and both "Save service" and "Storage service" in the following menu and she will reward you with 115 Base EXP and 151 Job EXP respectively.
TIP: Select "Teleport Service" and the Kafra Employee will warp you out of the Training Grounds. This is NOT recommended as you will get warped to the job city of your choice with additional free items at the end of training.
TIP: The remaining NPC's in this room and the room to right can be safely skipped, as they are just informational and give no experience or items.
Helper
Head to far left room on the left talk to the Helper at /navi new_1-2 17/182. Select "Yes" and press enter until he rewards you with 153 Base EXP. You can safely select "Quit." from the next menu as the other options give nothing beyond information.
TIP: Distribute your Status Points (Alt + A) and equip your gear, as the Fabre in the monster zone are aggressive. However, remember you can ONLY reset your Status Points for FREE at the end of the Training Grounds with Gottfried as long as you do NOT exceed Base Level 14.
TIP: Remember the Potato Merchant at /navi new_1-2 28/185 for later!
TIP: Head back to the Entrance Guard back through the portal (or if you die) and she will reward you with 200 Base EXP and 50 Novice Potion. Any additional time you talk to her, she will heal your HP to full, but reward no further experience or items.
Class Instructor
Once in the monster zone, talk to the Class Instructor at /navi new_1-3 87/32 and choose your desired First Job skill manual. Each manual is equipped on the Accessory slot, gives +100 SP and some of the classes skills to use. Only ONE manual can be had at a time. Once you leave Training Grounds the manual will be removed.
TIP: The Merchant Manual has Overcharge 10 and Item Appraisal 1. Use this to your advantage to get some early Zeny (especially if your First Job quest requires money or items) and to identify any equipment found (saving your Magnifier). Items can be sold at the Potato Merchant at /navi new_1-2 28/185.
Trainer
Get AT LEAST2 Base Levels killing monsters to gain access to the exit of the Training Grounds. If you spoke to the Entrance Guard and got a Base Level that counts as one of the levels. If you want to kill different monsters, talk to the Trainer at /navi new_1-3 95/30 to go to new levels.
TIP: Use this opportunity to get Job Level 10. It is particularly easy in the other monster levels. However, remember you can ONLY reset your Status Points for FREE at the end of the Training Grounds with Gottfried as long as you do NOT exceed Base Level 14.
TIP: Collect 1 Yellow Gemstone for the Area Loot quest. You can also turn 4 Blue Gemstone (bought in Geffen) into 1 Yellow Gemstone in Payon or there is usually a Softcore player vendor right by the quest NPC outside Alberta selling all the items you need.
Once you have gained 2 Base Levels, go to the top of the map and talk to Test Examiner at /navi new_1-3 96/174 and select "Yes".
TIP: This is the point of NO RETURN for the monster zone, the Merchant Manual and the Potato Merchant.
Bruce
Once inside, talk to Bruce at /navi new_1-4 91/22 and select any job. Talking to Bruce unlocks dialogue with Hanson.
Gottfried
You can reset your Status Points for FREE by talking to Gottfried at /navi new_1-4 108/22 as long as your Base Level does NOT exceed Level 14. Do this BEFORE moving onto the final step!
Hanson
Finally, talk to Hanson at /navi new_1-4 100/25 and choose whichever First Job class (or whichever items you want). He will give you items based on your choice and warp you to the Job Change city for the class you selected.
TIP: This is the point of NO RETURN for the Training Grounds and getting a FREE Status Points reset from Gottfried.
